Just before, you go ahead and buy a new lawn mower just for racing, it would be advisable to think and then select the class of lawn mower race that you are going competing.
In general, there are four classes of races.
-
In the first class, you can race with the equipment as it was sold in market without any modifications. This is called as Stock class.
-
IMOW Class:(International Mowers Of Weeds) in this class the engine has to be front engine, driver behind the engine, 15 HP max 36” inch width. Some modifications of vehicles are allowed.
-
Prepared Class: Modified vehicles are allowed in this class. The allowed modifications are written in the USLMRA rules and some internal engine modifications are allowed. Original alignment of the vehicles should remain.
-
Factory Experimental class: Major modifications are allowed in this case subject to the maximum limit of 465 CC engine displacement These machines no longer function as lawn mowers but their appearances are similar to the lawn mowers
Go ahead and buy the class of vehicle you wish to race. It would better to have a discussion with the persons who have already run the race and know the intricacies of running a race.
If you want a lawn mower just for running a race, you can purchase it just for that purpose, but it makes sense to combine the work with pleasure and have your workhorse of a lawn mower for the race.
Of course, if you have the money to buy a lawn mower just for racing, go ahead and buy one just for racing, but many others take part in the race just for the fun of it and it is more enjoyable that way. A lawn mower racing winner is very much a local winner and will hardly make it to national headlines just as a formula 1 driver would.
